The Need for Independent Media, undermined by Corporate Media Self-Censorship on Gaza
Mickey Huff and Eleanor Goldfield co-host this week's program. In the first segment, Mickey's guest is Prof. Raza Rumi, who explains the declining relevance of giant "legacy" media and the essential work of independent media. Later in the program, Mickey and Eleanor share their observations on how establishment media are slanting Gaza coverage in Israel's favor, going so far as to censor their own journalists to accomplish this.
Raza Rumi is Director of the Park Center for Independent Media (www.parkindymedia.org) at Ithaca College in upstate New York, and has held a variety of other academic appointments in his career. Among the Park Center's activities are its annual awards for excellence in independent journalism, the "Izzies" (named after I.F. Stone).
