Shadow Work for the Soul: Seeing Beauty in the Dark, part 2
This is the second half of Tonio Epstein's interview with Mary Shutan, a spiritual healer and teacher with an extensive background in Chinese Medicine, energy work and somatic bodywork. She is the author of several books, including The Spiritual Awakening Guide, Managing Psychic Abilities, The Shamanic Workbook, and The Body Deva, and her new book is Shadow Work for the Soul: Seeing Beauty in the Dark.
In this interview we dive into some of the practices and benefits of doing shadow work. We discuss inner child work, the collective shadow, working with archetypes and what they are in this realm. We also talk about our shadow relationships with politicians, celebrities and narcissists, and the costly dynamics of not doing our own shadow work. And how the shadow is the source of our joy and power, and how to take it back from the external world to revitalize ourselves and our relationship with the world and everything in it.

The Adventures of the Thin Man
The Case of the Moon Murder and The Case of the All-American Menace
Following up on the Lux Radio Theater radio dramatizations of two Thin Man movies based on Dashiell Hammett's characters Nick and Nora Charles, portrayed on screen by William Powell and Myrna Loy, here are a couple of episodes of the radio series. These, as well as a Sam Spade series based on Hammett's Maltese Falcon novel and film, were impacted by the Red Scare and the Hollywood Black List; Hammett's name was removed because he was tainted as a communist sympathizer or "fellow traveler" and one of the actors was also dropped after his name was printed in Red Channels, the publication that claimed to uncover communists in Hollywood.
The Adventures of the Thin Man radio series, initially starring Les Damon, was broadcast on all four major radio networks during the years 1941 to 1950. Claudia Morgan had the female lead role of Nora Charles throughout the program's entire nine-year run. The radio series was modeled after the film series which was based on the 1934 Dashiell Hammett novel. The first series, sponsored by Woodbury Soap, aired on NBC Wednesdays at 8pm from July 2, 1941 to December 23, 1942. Les Damon portrayed detective Nick Charles, and he continued in the role into 1943. Sponsored by General Foods (Post Toasties, Maxwell House Coffee, Sanka), the next series began on CBS January 8, 1943, airing on Fridays at 8:30pm and some Sunday timeslots and continuing until December 26, 1947. Les Tremayne and David Gothard were heard as Nick Charles in 1944-45, with Tremayne still in the role in 1945-46. Les Damon returned as Nick in 1946-47, with Tremayne back in 1948-49. The last actor to do the part was Joseph Curtin in 1950.

The Final Straw
This week they're sharing an interview conducted in recognition of June 11th as the International Day of Solidarity with Marius Mason and other long term anarchist prisoners. You'll hear Julie Herrada, a long time anarchist activist, comrade of Marius Mason, and worker at the Labadie Collection at the University of Michigan. Julie is joined by Matthew Hart, another longtime anarchist involved in labor organizing, historical research with the Dockstadter Mutual Aid Society and the Los Angeles Anarchist Black Cross chapter of the Federation. We speak about history, memory, prisoner support and continuing the struggle.
Marius Mason is a direct action environmentalist political prisoner and trans male now locked in a men's prison, but where prison medical personnel are refusing to perform parts of the gender aligning surgery to which he is entitled.
If you'd like to hear more about the history of June 11th and voices of anarchist prisoners and those who support them outside, we've taken the opportunity each year to have at least one show focusing on specific cases or concepts related to ongoing struggle and anti-repression work.

Everything You Wanted to Know About Trans but were afraid to ask
Transgender identity is often thought of as a relatively recent phenomenon and right-wing transphobes like to characterize it as a 'trendy' fad but in fact, there are people who anticipate contemporary transgender identities going back millennia. Veteran transgender activist Pauline Park talks with Naomi Brussel and Stahimili Mapp about what transgender is and isn't, and why right-wing Republicans are pushing an unprecedented wave of legislation in state legislatures across the country to limit and roll back the rights of trans people and especially trans youth.
Topics to be discussed:
1) Why are we doing this show?
2) Trans can be defined: legal, sex designation, biology, genetics, chromosomes.
3) Historical background
4) Concentric circles diagram & terminology
5) Trans as an umbrella term
6) Socially acceptable questions re gender identity, trans identity, hormones & surgery, etc.

TUC radio: Ilan Pappe
"The US has NO LIMITS when it comes to ISRAEL"
Ilan Pappe is an Israeli historian and political scientist. He is now a professor with the College of Social Sciences and International Studies at the University of Exeter in the United Kingdom.
His best known book is The Ethnic Cleansing of Palestine. Based on declassified British and Israeli government documents, the book explains that the expulsions of Palestinians were executed based on a plan drawn up in 1947 by Israel's future leaders. Ilan Pappe left Israel in 2008 after being condemned in the Knesset. A minister of education had called for him to be sacked.
Frank Barat, the French activist, author and film producer and long-time friend of Ilan Pappe spoke with Pappe on his podcast on May 26, 2024. This was within days of the missile launch into Israel, the International Criminal Court request for arrest warrants, and Pappe's detention by the FBI when he arrived in Detroit for a speaking tour.
You can find the full 29 minute talk on YouTube under the title: ILAN PAPPE: The US has no limits when it comes to Israel.

Omali Yeshitela interviewed by Paul di Rienzo (Archival from 2022)
In Aug. 2022, FBI agents launched raid in three cities.. a move reminiscent of COINTELPRO.. the secret government program that targeted progressive activist in the 1960s and 70s..
The agents came in the early morning hours.. without notice using flash-bang grenades, they smashed windows and sent in drones targeting the homes and offices of the US based African Peoples Socialist Party.. in St Louis.. Missouri, St. Petersburg, Florida and Sacramento, California..
The organization's Chairman Omali Yeshitela spoke exclusively with the exile news today he described the sudden invasion that occurred early in the morning.

The upshot of these raids is that Yeshitela, the chair of the African Peoples Solidarity Committee Penny Hess, and Jesse Nevel, chair of the Uhuru Solidarity Movement, known as the Uhuru 3 are facing federal prosecution in September in Florida on charges that they are Russian agents (!) for opposing US and NATO militarism. Project Censored
Mickey Huff and Eleanor Goldfield co-host this week's Project Censored Show. In the first half of the program, we learn about the ongoing campaign to defend Oak Flat, a region of Arizona's Tonto National Forest sacred to the Apache and other Native peoples of the region. Federal authorities want to allow a large copper mine to be dug there. The San Carlos Apache say the struggle is about both land defense and religious freedom. The Supreme Court is slated to hear the case.
In the second half of the program, Mickey and Eleanor critique the recent performance of media in covering Israel's ongoing massacre of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip. Among other observations, they take note of an article explaining the bizarre tactics Palestinian journalists must use to avoid having their reporting censored by social-media algorithms.
Vanessa Nosie is a member of Apache Stronghold (www.apache-stronghold.com), an organization working to defend Oak Flat (Chi'chil Bildagoteel). She is also an archeology aide with the San Carlos Apache.

MOATS: The Mother Of All Talk Shows with George Galloway
Continuing the trial run of the international podcast talk show with the leader of the pro-socialist Workers Party, who was elected to the British Parliament and is standing for election again in the elections scheduled for July 4 in England. This is a delayed broadcast; to call in you would have to do so on Sunday early afternoon when his YouTube/podcast is live.
Galloway discusses the results of the European parliament elections in Germany and a number of other EU countries, where the extreme right parties such as AfD in Germany and the FN in France won big. He also looks at the British elections where the ruling Conservatives are likely to get swept from power, and where his own Workers Party but also right wing forces are likely to make gains.
We want and need your feedback on whether or not to continue airing Galloway and MOATS. Email comments@kpfk.org with your opinions. Ideally we would prefer a program where we could take calls ourselves and hear from listeners live on the air, but we have to run both MOATS and Hartmann as delayed broadcasts, and run the overnight programming on automation, without a board operator or live host because of financial constraints.
