Sounds True with Tami Simon (Michael Singer podcast)

Every Day Gets Lighter When You Let Go of Yourself – New Year’s special

What do you plan to do with your “next lap around our star”? Nearly everyone, Michael Singer observes, will do the same thing they do every other year of their lives: try to get what they want and avoid what they don’t want. And they’ll be just as unhappy.

Why do we do this? Can’t we liberate ourselves from this no-win situation? Here, Michael shines an optimistic light on the New Year.

Michael A. Singer is author of the #1 New York Times bestseller The Untethered Soul and the New York Times bestsellers The Surrender Experiment and Living Untethered, all of which are published worldwide. He had a deep inner awakening in 1971 while working on his doctorate in economics and went into seclusion to focus on yoga and meditation. In 1975, he founded Temple of the Universe, a now long-established yoga and meditation center where people of any religion or set of beliefs can come together to experience inner peace. Along with his nearly five decades of spiritual teaching, Singer has made major contributions in the areas of business, education, health care, and environmental protection. As the astrologer, (as well as poet) Rumi said “when fate and strife cross in the heavens – you cannot escape. Your only hope is to dance towards its embrace!” to Craft our Vessel – both be boats… Our dedicated alchemical vessel, we craft this holy night, into which we then hop, and set sail… Our craft, “power from dedication,” likewise becomes our sturdy craft in the wild seas … Winter Solstice recorded Thursday December 21st 6 pm pt/ 9pm et Full replay (with video replay) available for donation on CoyoteNetworkNews.com

For the Record – David Emory

Another new episode from Dave, FTR #1317

Dave continues and closes out his discussion of Israel and Palestine begun last week, looking at fascist elements in both the Israeli and Arab societies. He looks at profit-taking by traders and short-sellers just in advance of the Oct. 7 attacks. One cautionary note, Dave talks about “ethnic cleansing” of Jewish people from surrounding Arab societies into Israel after its establishment. It should be noted that there is plenty of evidence that Israel itself carried out “false-flag” attacks on Jewish communities in Syria, Iraq, and possibly elsewhere in Arab and Muslim countries, in order to provoke an “exodus” of Mizrahi Jews to Israel from elsewhere in the so-called Middle East.

Dave will be alternating new and archival materials over the next few months as he recovers from what he describes as a painful, but not life-threatening medical condition. He has chosen the archival material for us to broadcast, and will make new material, as this week, available as he can.

Interview with Josh Davidson and political prisoner Eric King

This week on the show, you’ll hear part of our conversation with Eric King and Josh Davidson. Josh has been on a few times to talk about collaborative inside-outside projects he works on such as the Certain Days calendar, the greeting cards he helped make of Indigenous political prisoner Oso Blanco’s artwork to benefit Zapatista schools in Chiapas, and the Rattling The Cages book that he co-edited with Eric King.

Eric was just released in December 2023 into a halfway house in Colorado after nearly 10 years in Federal prisons across the country. Eric is an anarchist who was incarcerated for an attempted fire-bombing of the office of an official in Kansas City MO in solidarity with the then-ongoing Ferguson MO Uprising following the murder of Michael Brown by police. An antifascist and antiracist, Eric was moved around a lot during the 10 years he was inside and pitted against nazi prisoners in fight scenarios in a few instances, and near the end of his bid he was accused of assaulting an officer and successfully defended himself from a possible 20 year addition to his time inside; but he suffered intense isolation, insecurity, mail / phone and visitation blocks, moves across the country and physical restraint, ending up at the federal prison systems most intense prison, the supermax ADX in Florence, CO.

For the hour, the guests speak about prisoner support, putting the book together, the implications and effects of long-term isolation, and related topics. You can find more of Eric’s thoughts and updates at SupportEricKing.Org and similarly named social media accounts.

Announcement

Hunger Strike at Red Onion State Prison (VA)

Prisoners at the Red Onion State Prison in Virginia have been on hunger strike since December 26th against the illegal and cruel use of solitary confinement at the facility in spite of procedures put into place last summer by the Virginia government. Here are some words from the support site for Minister of Defense of the Revolutionary Intercommunal Black Panther Party, Kevin "Rashid" Johnson. From rashidmod.com :

On Tuesday, December 26, 2023, several prisoners confined at Virginias Red Onion State Prison began a hunger strike to protest the continued use of long-term solitary confinement within the institution.Despite critical concern, outcry from the public and prisoner populations in the state, incarcerated people are still subjected to this brutal practice which has been renamed restorative housing since July 1, 2023 when measures were passed to limit its use in the state.

Leading these prisoners in this effort is longtime prison activist, revolutionary writer and artist, Kevin Rashid Johnson. Rashid has stated that no one will take any food at all until demands are met. Some of the strike participants have underlying health concerns that make the undertaking of such a demonstration particularly risky. Rashid, himself, is recovering from multiple rounds of radiation to treat prostate cancer as well as suffering from untreated heart disease/congestive heart failure. This is why the publics support is especially needed. We are asking that calls, emails, and letters be sent to the Virginia Department of Corrections (VADOC) officials as well as Virginia governor Glenn Youngkins office voicing support for the strikers and condemnation for the inhumane use of long-term solitary confinement/restorative housing.

Covert Action Bulletin with Rachel Hu and Chris Garaffa

U.S. Targets Venezuela on Behalf of ExxonMobil

The US government is inserting itself into a border dispute between Venezuela and Guyana on behalf of ExxonMobil. The oil-rich Essequibo region has the world’s biggest reserves per capita of crude oil and in May of this year, a “significant discovery” by ExxonMobil was announced in the area’s 6.6-million acre Staborek Block oil field.

In a December 3rd referendum, 10.4 million Venezuelans voted overwhelmingly to keep the U.S. out of the disagreement and to continue to handle the dispute under the 1966 Geneva Agreement.

The U.S. State Department is dismissing the referendum results and while spokesperson Matthew Miller said the U.S. wants a “peaceful resolution,” Secretary of State Blinken has put forward that the US totally backs Guyana and that the region’s 61,600 square mile area is fully Guyanese.

To get into the history of Essequibo and help us understand what’s happening in the context of decades of U.S. imperialist actions against Venezuela, we’re joined by Gloria La Riva of the Cuba and Venezuela Solidarity Committee. More information here: http://www.cuba-venezuela.org/index.php/en/

Rachel Hu is a journalist with “BreakThrough News,” a new independent media project, where she hosts the podcast “It’s Not You, It’s Capitalism.” She is also a host on WBAI 99.5FM in NYC and has been an anti-war and anti-racist activist with the ANSWER Coalition for the last decade. Rachel can be reached at: rachel@wbai.org.

Chris Garaffa has been an anti-imperialist and social justice organizer since joining the movement against the Iraq war in 2003. Chris is a weekly guest on Sputnik Radio’s “By Any Means Necessary,” and co-hosts the podcast “The Reboot,” focusing on the intersection between technology and human rights. Chris can be reached at: chris.garaffa@gmail.com.
