Tami Simon – Sounds True Insights from the Edge: Matt Guttman – Dealing with a Lifetime of Panic Attacks

https://resources.soundstrue.com/podcast/matt-gutman-conquering-a-lifetime-of-panic-attacks/

28% of Americans will experience a panic attack in their lifetime. Some researchers say that number is closer to 50%. Renowned ABC News correspondent, Matt Gutman, never felt afraid when assigned to active and dangerous war zones. Yet when he had to speak on live television in front of a viewership of 9 million people, the seemingly unflappable reporter suffered intense panic attacks that nearly cost him his job. To help anyone whose life has been impacted by this often misunderstood mental health challenge, Gutman shares his personal journey in No Time to Panic.

In this podcast, Tami Simon speaks with Gutman about the book and the hard-won insights he brings his readers, exploring: The importance of destigmatizing panic attack disorder; conventional and alternative healing modalities; “retiring the drill sergeant” (aka managing the inner critic); excavating unresolved grief; how panic disorder can metastasize into other psychological issues; physical threats vs. social threats (and how we tolerate them); the evolutionary purpose of anxiety; how vulnerability is often the first step toward healing; the paradox of welcoming your panic; psychedelics and ego transcendence; the power of mindfulness and meditation; and more.

Note: This episode originally aired on Sounds True One, where these special episodes of Insights at the Edge are available to watch live on video and with exclusive access to Q&As with our guests. Learn more at join.soundstrue.com.

Matt Gutman is ABC News’s chief national correspondent. A multi-award-winning reporter, Gutman contributes regularly to ”World News Tonight with David Muir,” ”20/20,” ”Good Morning America,” and ”Nightline.” He has reported from fifty countries across the globe and is the author of “The Boys in the Cave: Deep Inside the Impossible Rescue in Thailand.” He lives in Los Angeles with his wife and two children.

The Magical Mystery Tour: The science of consciousness and communication after death

With Tonio Epstein

Daniel Drasin is an award-winning documentary filmmaker, photographer and media producer. Since the early 1990s, he has been actively investigating the field of afterlife communication through traditional mental and physical mediumship as well as modern electronics, which are thoroughly documented in his two full length documentary films Scole: The Afterlife Experiment, and Calling Earth. His new book is A New Science of the Afterlife: Space, Time & the Consciousness Code. All of which demonstrate lots of solid irrefutable evidence of communication and physical manifestation from the other side, or the afterlife, as hard as that might be to believe. For many, this will be truly mind bending stuff, and challenging everything many have been brought up and or educated to believe. We also talk about skepticism and science.

The Magical Mystery Tour is a show that dives into the heart of things exploring new ideas and new ways of seeing and being in this wondrous crazy world we share together. New shows are available weekly by Monday. Feel free to contact me at 802-229-5123 or tonio@together.net

Dave Emory – “How Groovy Was It Really?” FTR #1307

Introduction: Exploring aspects of the “counter-culture” of the 1960’s against the background of the CIA and military’s experimentation with mind-altering substances and various mind-control techniques, this program asks the question: “Was it really good?”

Key Points of Analysis and Discussion Include:

1.–Details concerning SPAN, the operational code-name for the dosing with LSD of the entire town of Pont St.-Esprit in Southern France.

2.–The story of William Hayward, the director of the ’60s cult film Easy Rider. Hayward was the victim of psychiatric confinement by elements associated with the intelligence community.

3.–The monitoring of Ken Kesey’s LSD events by members of the intelligence community.

4.–Former OSS agent Gregory Bateson’s stewardship of the introduction of Ken Kesey to LSD.

5.–Sourcing for the information about the Bateson/Kesey dynamic and discussion of CIA and military experiments with mind-altering substances at the University of Vermont.

6.–CIA operative George Hunter White’s surreptitious dosing of unwitting subjects with LSD.

7.–George Hunter White’s arrest of jazz singer Billie Holiday for opium possession in 1949. Drug arrests destroyed Holiday’s ability to work in establishments that served alcohol.

8.–The story of a San Francisco event featuring the cream of the psychedelic bands of the time. The event benefitted the Hare Krishna cult.

9.–Discussion of the fascist philosophy of the leader of the Hare Krishna cult.

10.–The biography of John Perry Barlow, former campaign manager for Dick Cheney and lyricist for the Grateful Dead. Barlow’s role with the EFF, an organization with many worthy members and reputation but one which, nonetheless, has worked for the intelligence community.

11.–Barlow’s interaction with the CIA and NSA and an examination of the possibility of his stewardship of social media.

Covert Action Bulletin

https://covertactionmagazine.com/2023/08/16/covertaction-bulletin-mccarthyism-is-back-the-anti-china-red-scare/

A recent article in the New York Times attacked peace groups and activists who oppose the U.S. government’s drive towards war with China. Just days later, Senator Marco Rubio sent a letter to Attorney General Merrick Garland demanding an investigation into Code Pink, the Tricontinental Institute for Social Research, Dongsheng and others named in the article.

While they differ on tactics or on domestic social issues, both wings of the mainstream establishment in the U.S. are united in their effort to prevent China from becoming a world power and threatening the imperialist order. We’re joined by Ben Becker, the Editor-in-Chief of BreakThrough News, to investigate this New McCarthyism and review the history of the Red Scare from World War I through the Civil Rights movement.

To sign the petition mentioned in the introduction opposing the McCarthyist attacks on those speaking out against a new Cold War with China, go to https://peoplesforum.org/sign-on.

Rachel Hu is a journalist with “BreakThrough News,” a new independent media project, where she hosts the podcast “It’s Not You, It’s Capitalism.” She is also a host on WBAI 99.5FM in NYC and has been an anti-war and anti-racist activist with the ANSWER Coalition for the last decade. Rachel can be reached at: rachel@wbai.org.

Chris Garaffa has been an anti-imperialist and social justice organizer since joining the movement against the Iraq war in 2003. Chris is a weekly guest on Sputnik Radio’s “By Any Means Necessary,” and co-hosts the podcast “The Reboot,” focusing on the intersection between technology and human rights. The Other 9-11:

Building Bridges, produced by Mimi Rosenberg & Ken Nash program description for 9/11/23:

Chile & 9/11 focuses on the AFL-CIO’s “American Institute for Free Labor Development” (AIFLD), one of four US-government-funded labor institutes created during the Cold War, that channeled millions of dollars to right-wing unions and political parties opposed to Allende’s socialist agenda. Labor historian & Prof. Ruth Needleman was in Chile in the months preceding the military overthrow of the government, where she was able to interview the leaders and organizers of the coup, along with AIFLD officials. Needelman speaks to us about the injustices she witnessed and the lessons of Chile’s coup.

Second segment: Bhairavi Desai (pronounced BY-ra-vee They-SIGH) president of the New York Taxi Workers Alliance, a union representing approximately 15,000 primarily immigrant taxi drivers in New York, which she founded as an extension of her work for the rights of Asian workers with the Committee Against Asian American Violence in 1996, talks about going beyond labor liberalism towards building class struggle unionism for empowering workers for social control.

Mike Ruppert, The Lifeboat Hour

http://www.grinningplanet.com/mp3-news/special/michael-ruppert-death-memorial-download-mp3s.htm

Marking the anniversary of the launch of the endless war (on “terror”) that is still continuing in new forms , we present a deeper episode from Michael C. Ruppert, who exposed US government complicity with cocaine and other drug dealing, the likelihood that the US knew about and allowed 9-11-2001 to happen, and the subsequent machinations around peak oil and environmental devastation caused by the profit seeking forces he characterized as TPTB -The Powers That Be. Here he looks at the roots of Warrior Culture and its consequences for the planet.

Ruppert on Warrior Culture, Collapse, and The Garden — Mike Ruppert discusses the need to dismantle the warrior culture. The evidence from pre-historical societies shows that violent domination is not inherent in human behavior—it has been learned, and it can be unlearned. He also talks about Daniel Quinn's Ishmael, which reveals a culture that is killing the world around it. Of note, he relates the parable of an ever-consuming Adam, first outgrowing the garden, then the region, until he finally consumes the entire earth, and then.... Ruppert finishes up with a review of what's GOOD about peak oil and collapse. (1:04)
