Benjamin Ramos, a queer member of the ProLibertad Freedom Campaign, interviews Raphael Agosta Miranda, a trans man and EMT who represents the New York-based Juventud Unida Por la Independencia (JUPI) or United Youth for the Independence of Puerto Rico. They discuss the history and evolution of homophobia and transphobia, and the growing strength of the LGBTQ+ movement, both on the island of Puerto Rico and in Puerto Rican communities in the U.S., especially within the independence movement.

Out-FM is booting Betty & ditching the Zionist group's theme song

Out-FM produces LGBT-themed programming for WBAI and has been using Together as its theme song for many years but the collective decided in pride month 2024 to boot Betty and ditch the song.
Betty is an indie rock trio that includes Alyson Palmer (vocals, bass, guitar) and sisters Elizabeth Ziff (vocals, guitar, electronic programming) and Amy Ziff (vocals and cello). As activists, BETTY uses their music to work for equal rights, peace and optimal health for all and the environment, the group declares on their website " while failing to mention their strident support for Apartheid Israel.
In many public statements as well as tweets and retweets on Twitter (rebranded by Elon Musk as X), the Ziff sisters have repeatedly conflated Judaism with Zionism. I feel sidelined No one is taking away my Jewish gay pride. When people who are waving the Palestinian flag are screaming rape their daughters and mothers, kill all Jews, and shouting other slurs at Jews, that is not about Israel, Elizabeth Ziff told the Jewish Daily Forward (Marisa Fox-Bevilacqua, Queer Zionists ask: Where are our allies?, Forward, 30 June 2021).
On May 19 of this year, @BettyMusic retweeted a tweet from Jamie Metzl (@JamieMetzl) in which he wrote, Everyone should be as concerned about these protesters marching behind the Hamas flag in Brooklyn yesterday as we would be if KKK bigots marched behind a burning cross carrying nooses or goose-stepping Nazis marched with swastikas.
On May 1, the Betty account retweeted a tweet from Josh Kraushaar (@JoshKraushaar) quoting U.S. Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) in which the Pennsylvania Democrat wrote,The protesters at Columbia demonstrated that there are two factions of the protesters " there's the pro-Hamas, and then there's the really pro-Hamas.
With Apartheid Israel's Gaza genocide having now claimed more than 37,000 innocent civilian lives, we in the Out-FM collective felt it was time to distance ourselves from this trio of Zionist propagandists who use their platform to generate support for the illegal and genocidal occupation of Palestine.
We therefore invite listeners to e-mail us at outfmfeedback@wbai.org with suggestions for a replacement to "Together". There are many unresolved scientific issues relative to the suitability of the Yucca Mountain site. These issues include hydrology, inadequacy of the proposed waste package, repository design and volcanism. The Yucca site is seismically and volcanically active, porous and incapable of geologically containing the nuclear waste. Even the State of Nevada is officially concerned that Yucca's aquifer drains to the Amargosa Valley, one of Nevada's most productive agricultural regions, is adjacent to a busy and growing Nellis Air Force Base, and is only 90 miles from the state of Nevada's largest metropolitan area, Las Vegas.

Sheridan Blackwell assumed the role of Head of Systems Change, Hospitals, and Partnerships in November 2022. Ms. Blackwell is a seasoned healthcare professional with 10 years of experience. The Case of the Moon Murder and The Case of the All-American Menace
Following up on the Lux Radio Theater radio dramatizations of two Thin Man movies based on Dashiell Hammett's characters Nick and Nora Charles, portrayed on screen by William Powell and Myrna Loy, here are a couple of episodes of the radio series. These, as well as a Sam Spade series based on Hammett's Maltese Falcon novel and film, were impacted by the Red Scare and the Hollywood Black List; Hammett's name was removed because he was tainted as a communist sympathizer or "fellow traveler" and one of the actors was also dropped after his name was printed in Red Channels, the publication that claimed to uncover communists in Hollywood.
The Adventures of the Thin Man radio series, initially starring Les Damon, was broadcast on all four major radio networks during the years 1941 to 1950. Claudia Morgan had the female lead role of Nora Charles throughout the program's entire nine-year run. The radio series was modeled after the film series which was based on the 1934 Dashiell Hammett novel. The first series, sponsored by Woodbury Soap, aired on NBC Wednesdays at 8pm from July 2, 1941 to December 23, 1942. Les Damon portrayed detective Nick Charles, and he continued in the role into 1943. Sponsored by General Foods (Post Toasties, Maxwell House Coffee, Sanka), the next series began on CBS January 8, 1943, airing on Fridays at 8:30pm and some Sunday timeslots and continuing until December 26, 1947. Les Tremayne and David Gothard were heard as Nick Charles in 1944-45, with Tremayne still in the role in 1945-46. Les Damon returned as Nick in 1946-47, with Tremayne back in 1948-49. The last actor to do the part was Joseph Curtin in 1950.

The Case of the Moon Murder and The Case of the All-American Menace
Following up on the Lux Radio Theater radio dramatizations of two Thin Man movies based on Dashiell Hammett's characters Nick and Nora Charles, portrayed on screen by William Powell and Myrna Loy, here are a couple of episodes of the radio series. These, as well as a Sam Spade series based on Hammett's Maltese Falcon novel and film, were impacted by the Red Scare and the Hollywood Black List; Hammett's name was removed because he was tainted as a communist sympathizer or "fellow traveler" and one of the actors was also dropped after his name was printed in Red Channels, the publication that claimed to uncover communists in Hollywood.
The Adventures of the Thin Man radio series, initially starring Les Damon, was broadcast on all four major radio networks during the years 1941 to 1950. Claudia Morgan had the female lead role of Nora Charles throughout the program's entire nine-year run. The radio series was modeled after the film series which was based on the 1934 Dashiell Hammett novel. The first series, sponsored by Woodbury Soap, aired on NBC Wednesdays at 8pm from July 2, 1941 to December 23, 1942. Les Damon portrayed detective Nick Charles, and he continued in the role into 1943. Sponsored by General Foods (Post Toasties, Maxwell House Coffee, Sanka), the next series began on CBS January 8, 1943, airing on Fridays at 8:30pm and some Sunday timeslots and continuing until December 26, 1947. Les Tremayne and David Gothard were heard as Nick Charles in 1944-45, with Tremayne still in the role in 1945-46. Les Damon returned as Nick in 1946-47, with Tremayne back in 1948-49. The last actor to do the part was Joseph Curtin in 1950.

Ilan Pappe is an Israeli historian and political scientist. He is now a professor with the College of Social Sciences and International Studies at the University of Exeter in the United Kingdom.
His best known book is The Ethnic Cleansing of Palestine. Based on declassified British and Israeli government documents, the book explains that the expulsions of Palestinians were executed based on a plan drawn up in 1947 by Israel's future leaders. Ilan Pappe left Israel in 2008 after being condemned in the Knesset. A minister of education had called for him to be sacked.
Frank Barat, the French activist, author and film producer and long-time friend of Ilan Pappe spoke with Pappe on his podcast on May 26, 2024. This was within days of the missile launch into Israel, the International Criminal Court request for arrest warrants, and Pappe's detention by the FBI when he arrived in Detroit for a speaking tour.

The agents came in the early morning hours.. without notice using flash-bang grenades, they smashed windows and sent in drones targeting the homes and offices of the US based African Peoples Socialist Party.. in St Louis.. Missouri, St. Petersburg, Florida and Sacramento, California..
The organization's Chairman Omali Yeshitela spoke exclusively with the exile news today he described the sudden invasion that occurred early in the morning.
The upshot of these raids is that Yeshitela, the chair of the African Peoples Solidarity Committee Penny Hess, and Jesse Nevel, chair of the Uhuru Solidarity Movement, known as the Uhuru 3 are facing federal prosecution in September in Florida on charges that they are Russian agents (!) for opposing US and NATO militarism. In the first half of the program, we learn about the ongoing campaign to defend Oak Flat, a region of Arizona's Tonto National Forest sacred to the Apache and other Native peoples of the region. Federal authorities want to allow a large copper mine to be dug there. The San Carlos Apache say the struggle is about both land defense and religious freedom. The Supreme Court is slated to hear the case.
In the second half of the program, Mickey and Eleanor critique the recent performance of media in covering Israel's ongoing massacre of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip. Among other observations, they take note of an article explaining the bizarre tactics Palestinian journalists must use to avoid having their reporting censored by social-media algorithms.

He also looks at the British elections where the ruling Conservatives are likely to get swept from power, and where his own Workers Party but also right wing forces are likely to make gains.

In his first new episode after a hiatus, Dave returns to legal "Chokeholds" in the JFK assassination with a two-part interview, FTR 1325 and 1326. These programs continue the presentation of the legal concept of “Chokeholds” on the JFK assassination–dynamics that prove, legally, that there was a conspiracy.
These do not necessarily resonate precisely with aspects of the historical record, which embraces, but does not delineate, principles of law.
In these broadcasts, Jim DiEugenio, Paul Bleau and Mr. Emory are joined by Matt Crumpton, one of the contributors to the book, a lawyer and author of a brilliant chapter of the volume dealing with the Oswald impersonators.
We conclude the first broadcast with a tribute to the recently-deceased Cyril Wecht and Dr. William F. Pepper (who proved in court a conspiracy in the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr.).
